Customer Analysis.

ANALYSIS

There is a year worth of sales data in the CSV (Comma separated value) file from October 2020 to September 2021 with total revenue of $233,650,194. I also created a doughnut and a butterfly chart which aren’t part of Tableau’s in-built visualizations.

Texas is the state with the most revenue of $15.5M, followed by California with $13.9M while the two lowest states are Wyoming with $1M and Hawaii with $0.6M.

December 2020 has the highest revenue with $57.7M, then April 2021 with $36.7M while the least with a revenue of $4.4M is February 2021

Customers between the age of 30 and 40 generated the most revenue of $44.8M followed by customers aged 20-30 with $39.9M while the least revenue is generated by customers less than 20 years old with $7.0M.

There is a correlation between discounts and the quantity ordered. As the discount per cent increases the quantity ordered increases as well. When the discount per cent was 75, the quantity ordered was 371 and 361 respectively. Also, when the discount per cent was 31.98, the quantity ordered was 301.

The South region generated the most revenue, $89.6M which is 38.37%. The revenue generated by the Mid-west region is 26.93% while the least is the Northeast region with 17.10%. In the South region, Texas generated the most revenue while Delaware generated the least revenue with $0.5M. New York generated the most revenue in the Northeast region with $11.4M while New Hampshire generated $1.3M which is the least.

Female customers bought more from the Mobiles & Gadgets category with a revenue of $66.3M while Male customers contributed to the revenue of most of the categories but the highest being Entertainment and Computing with $13.7M and $5.1M respectively.

OBSERVATIONS

1. There is a positive relationship between discounts and the number of orders.

2. In December 2020, most age groups had high revenue, ranging from $9M-$10M. At this time most customers were residents of California contributing $3.9M, this is followed by Texas contributing $3.5M to the revenue.

3. The mobile & gadgets category has the highest revenue with $130M while the books category has the least revenue of $32,417.
